Drummond Paris, Non-Executive Chairman

Drummond brings over thirty years of pharmaceutical industry operations and management experience to Karus. After joining Sandoz (now Novartis) in 1981 he rose to become Global Head of the Transplantation and Immunology Unit (Basel, Switzerland) and was appointed CEO & Country President of Novartis Pharmaceuticals UK in 2001. At Novartis, his responsibilities included the delivery of on-budget performance within the pharmaceutical business units; providing effective governance and performance overview in consumer health, Ciba Vision, animal health and manufacturing business. He also represented Novartis to key stakeholders. In addition to his chairmanship of Karus, Drummond is President of Kowa Pharmaceuticals Europe.

Ann Hacker, Non-Executive Director

Ann Hacker, Non-Executive Director

In addition to her role as a non-executive director of Karus Therapeutics, Ann is a non-executive director of Frimley Park NHS Foundation Trust Hospital and a non-executive director of Noble Health Fund VCT Plc. She is also a Trustee of the William Harvey Research Foundation. Ann has worked in the healthcare industry for over 30 years and has held senior management positions with Lilly and Glaxo Pharmaceuticals (now GSK) as well as having been CEO of three venture capital backed life science companies, Biocompatibles International Plc, Deltex Medical Limited and Metris Therapeutics Limited. In addition, she has held directorships in a number of private and public healthcare companies and health related government organisations.

William Bains, Non-Executive Director

William Bains, Non-Executive Director

William is a scientist and serial entrepreneur. He joined Karus's Board in August 2005. After degrees at Oxford and Warwick and research posts in the UK and US, William worked for PA Consulting Group for 8 years before joining Merlin Biosciences in 1996, where he was responsible for technical input into the companies created with Merlin Fund I. In 1999 he founded Amedis Pharmaceuticals and was its founding CEO/CSO until end of 2001. Amedis was successfully sold to Paradigm Therapeutics in 2004. William is CEO of Delta G, a Cambridge based start up, sits on the Boards of MultiProSys and the SULIS Fund, and teaches entrepreneurship at Cambridge University.

Simon Kerry PhD MBA, Chief Executive Officer

Simon is a business professional with almost two decades experience of creating and developing innovative life-science businesses. Before joining Karus as the company's first CEO in 2006, he was Director of Business Development at Ablynx NV (Ghent, Belgium), where he was responsible for securing a number of research, development and licensing agreements with major pharmaceutical companies including Wyeth (now Pfizer) and Novartis. He also played a key role in Ablynx's development from early-stage to one of Europe's most promising antibody companies.

Prior to Ablynx, Simon was Director of Business Development at Active Biotech AB (Lund, Sweden), where he spun-out the molecular evolution company, Isogenica Ltd (Cambridge, UK), later joining the spin-out as Vice President of Business Development.

Simon has held other key commercial appointments at Actinova Ltd (Cambridge UK), where he was responsible for International Business Development , and Actigen Ltd (Cambridge, UK), where he was General Manager. Simon has also occupied senior commercial roles at the Health Protection Agency (Salisbury, UK) and within the Jasmin group of companies. Simon has a medicinal chemistry degree, a PhD in the use of microbial enzymes in organic synthesis and an executive MBA from Loughborough University Business School.

Stephen Shuttleworth PhD FRSC, Chief Scientific Officer

Stephen Shuttleworth PhD FRSC, Chief Scientific Officer

Stephen is a research and development professional with just under 20 years' experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. He has established a strong track-record in small molecule drug discovery and R&D management at several high-calibre organizations, including Celltech-Chiroscience (Cambridge, UK), Shire (Montreal, Canada), Amgen (San Francisco, California) where he was Associate Director of Chemistry, and Piramed (Slough, UK) where he was Director of Chemistry and PI3K Program Leader.

At Piramed, Stephen was responsible for leading the p110α and p110δ projects, and for the design and preclinical development of GDC-0941, which is currently in clinical trials for the treatment of cancer, and he played a central role in establishing a major R&D collaboration with Genentech in 2005.

Prior to joining Karus he was Head of New Projects Development at Cancer Research UK, London, responsible for CRUK's New Agents Committee and for establishing the portfolio of Phase I and II clinical programs. Stephen obtained his BSc and PhD in Chemistry from the University of Liverpool. He has authored more than 90 publications and patents, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
